UK/Spain (2011), 49’ Director Ana Bleahu , Laurențiu Calciu
Synopsis:Migrant Birds was part of Ana Bleahu’s PhD research about Roma Pentecostal migrants from Romania. The subjects of the film have been living in Spain for some years now, moving around according to the seasons. Off-season, in the summer, they hang around for about a month in a small forest, outside a village.
They also go to “wandering churches”, which gives them a sense of community, of belonging, in a country where they otherwise feel alien, “estranjeros”.
About the director:Ana Bleahu has studied sociology at Bucharest University and is doing a PhD about Roma Pentecostal migrants from Romania.
Laurentiu Calciu has studied mathematics at Bucharest University and filmmaking at NFTS in the UK. His best known films are The Land is Waiting (2004) and After the Revolution (2010).
